I’m going on holiday… what do I do with my plants?

So, you’re going on holiday soon and you’re worried about leaving your plant babies behind? We get it. But don’t worry; with these tips, we can give them the best chance to survive until you come back:

1. Water your plants thoroughly before you leave:

The first thing you need to do is ensure your plants have plenty of water before you leave. Thoroughly water each plant the night before you go, making sure the soil is moist but not soaking.

2. Place plants in a brightly lit spot:

Plants need sunlight to photosynthesize and grow, so it’s important to make sure they’re in a bright spot. Place them near the window or under grow lights if you have them.

3. Group plants together:

When plants are in close proximity, they create a microclimate that can help keep them hydrated. Grouping your plants together can notably increase the humidity around them.

4. Don’t overwater your plants before you leave:

While it’s essential to water your plants thoroughly before you leave, it’s equally important not to overwater them. If the soil is too wet when you leave, it can lead to root rot, which can be fatal to your plants. Make sure the soil is only moist and not waterlogged.

5. Cover your soil with mulch:

To help keep the moisture in the soil, consider covering the surface of the soil with some mulch before you go away. This will help prevent evaporation and keep your plants hydrated.

6. Use a self-watering system:

If you can’t trust your roommate or friend to water your plants while you’re on vacation, invest in a self-watering system. These can be found at most garden stores and can be an absolute life-saver for your plants.

7. Move your plants to a cooler spot:

If you have big plants or ones that aren’t in need of the bright light, consider moving them to a cooler spot. This way, they won't need as much water and will have a better chance of surviving.

By following these tips, you’ll be sure that your precious plants will stay healthy while you're away. So, go ahead, pack your bags!
