Top Tips

✔  If the String of Hearts is not receiving enough light its leaves will be wider apart and will appear lighter in colour with less marbling.

✔ Rotate the plant regularly to promote even growth on all sides.

Plant Care

  • String of Hearts thrive in bright, indirect light and are definitely not suited for lower light environments.

  • The String of Hearts is drought tolerant so it is best to underwater than overwater the plant. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings, and then give the plant a thorough watering. During the autumn and winter months watering should be reduced.

  • String of Hearts are tolerant of normal humidity levels and so do not require any additional misting.

  • Feed the String of Hearts once a month during the summer using a diluted fertiliser. Do not feed the plant during the autumn or winter months.

  • The String of Hearts is fine in average room temperatures between 18 - 24°C. Make sure to keep the plant away from any drafts.

  • This plant is not toxic.

  • String of Hearts can be propagated from cuttings. Stem cuttings can either be initially placed into water or planted into soil to grow their own roots, whichever method is used the cuttings need to be positioned in a warm place that receives bright, indirect light.

  • The String of Hearts should be repotted every couple of years. Take care when repotting as the vines can be very delicate and make sure that the new pot has good drainage holes.

Growing small leaves

This will probably be due to the plant being root bound. Repot the plant in order to encourage the growth of larger leaves.

Dry leaves

This will be the result of the plant not receiving enough water. Although the String of Hearts is drought tolerant if it receives too little water the leaves will begin to dry out and eventually fall off. In order to avoid this, thoroughly water the plant and then allow the soil to dry out between waterings.
